Thrill of Victory (and Possibility of Failure) - Episode #138

Friday, September 16th, 2011

"To feel the thrill of victory, there has to be the possibility of failure." - Dr. Pulaski, Star Trek-The Next Generation, Season 2, Episode #3.

This podcast includes two marathon race stories that about 75% reflect the above quote. Who would have thought that a line from Star Trek would inspire a theme for this podcast?

Wrong Way Running, etc. - Episode #136

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

My motivation seems to be back and for some reason it might have something to do with a guy who runs the wrong way on an indoor track. That and other commentary in this week's podcast.

Drive 4 Hours to Walk 1.5 Miles - Episode #135

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

I traveled to Chesapeake, Virginia, which is normally an easy 2 hour drive, to check on my good friend Dr. Smitty who ran almost 30 miles in a heat index of 116 degrees. I got stuck in traffic and arrived just in time to hang out for the last 1.5 miles of his effort.

The Sub 5-Hour Marathoner - Episode #134

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

This podcast is about the lack of respect that sub 5 hour marathoners get in running publications. My question is on whose authority does running a sub 4 hour marathon make you better than the sub 5 hour marathoner? There is really no answer to the question but this podcast explores some of that line of thinking.

The second part of the podcast focuses on a friend named Shannon who made a marathon PR by simply relaxing.

Ultramarathon Preparation - Race Week - Derek Miller’s Music - Episode #129

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Not all ultramarathons are the same. My upcoming ultra in Florida will be hot and I'll be bringing some things with me to help.

I'm sad to report that Derek Miller has died. I never met Derek but I've been using his free music on the podcast for a few years. Derek was a unique person and I encourage you to learn more about his life at the link below.
