I just listened to your StinkyShoes podcast. I’m not sure I could talk intelligibly or intelligently enough on a 7-miler to record, especially if the temperatures are in the 80’s (actually, you’re not likely to even find me out running when it’s that hot), so I’m impressed.

My shoes have exactly the same problem and I can’t figure out what to do with them. I sweat something awful — it’s not unusual for me to lose 1/2# per mile or more on a run. My shoes are tolerable until I run in the rain and that seems to hasten the souring and stinking and makes it permanent — even if I take out the inserts and stuff them with newspaper to dry them out faster. And, like you, I can’t find anything to really take the smell out. I’ve scrubbed them, sprayed them with Fabreez (sp?), sprayed them with Lysol — the smell will go from overpowering to only annoying but that’s about it.

So, basically, my shoes have a permanent residence on the covered porch/patio. And, because it’s the rainy season here in Kenya, I’m rotating 2 pair — one for rainy or muddy runs and the other for dry mornings. Hopefully that will delay the onset of stink for the “dry” pair.
